How do I know which service is right for my child?

The best starting point is a free initial consultation. During this conversation, we will discuss your child's needs, strengths, and history, and recommend the most appropriate service — or combination of services. There is no obligation to proceed, and no question is too small.

What age groups do you work with?

We work with children from approximately 3 years of age through to late adolescence (17–18 years). Some services, such as play therapy, are most commonly accessed by children aged 3–12, while counselling is frequently accessed by older children and teenagers, and tutoring is accessed by school-aged students (Prep – Year 9). Please contact us if you are unsure whether we can support your child's age group.

Do I need a referral to access your services?

No referral is required to access our services. Families are welcome to contact us directly. However, some clients choose to speak with their GP or paediatrician first, which can be helpful for families accessing services via NDIS funding or a Mental Health Treatment Plan.

What happens in the first appointment?

The first appointment is a 90 minute intake session. We gather information about your child's history, current challenges, goals, and strengths. This session involves the parents/guardians only. We will explain what to expect from the process and answer any questions you may have.

Why does my child play instead of talk during therapy?

Play is the primary way children communicate and process their experiences — particularly children who do not yet have the emotional vocabulary or cognitive maturity to articulate their inner world verbally. Play therapy is a recognised, evidence-based treatment modality precisely because it works with, rather than against, the way children naturally make sense of their world – through play.

Will I be able to observe sessions?

Play therapy is most effective when the child feels completely safe and free to express themselves without concern for how their caregiver might react. For this reason, we do not have parents present during sessions, except for the start of the first session. However, parents are involved through regular progress consultations and are always kept informed of their child's therapeutic journey.

How long will my child need play therapy?

The duration of therapy is different for every child and depends on the nature and complexity of the presenting concerns, as well as the child's responsiveness to the therapeutic process. Some children benefit within 20–30 sessions; others require longer-term support. We review progress regularly (every 5 sessions through a parent consultation) and keep families informed at every stage.

What is the difference between educational therapy and tutoring?

Tutoring focuses on academic content — helping a student understand curriculum material, complete assignments, and build subject-specific knowledge. Educational therapy goes deeper: it addresses the underlying cognitive and processing factors that make learning difficult in the first place.

How much do sessions cost?

Do you accept NDIS funding?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We accept NDIS funding for eligible services and welcome self-managed and plan-managed participants. Please contact us to discuss which of our services may align with your child's plan goals and funded supports.

Question 11

What is your cancellation policy?

Accepted Answer

We ask for a minimum of 48 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Sessions cancelled or rescheduled with less than 48 hours' notice will forfeit the session fee. We recognise that unexpected circumstances arise, and we approach each situation with care and good faith.
